Name of The Project : Tripura Forest Environment Improvement and Poverty Alleviation Project

Project period: 8 years commencing FY 2007-08

Objectives: Promoting sustainable forest management through improvement of density and quality of forests in the project area, conserving soil and improving the water regime, poverty alleviation of local people who are heavily dependent for their livelihood on forests and conserving biodiversity.

Scope: TFIPAP is proposed to be implemented in the three Districts of south Tripura,West Tripura and North Tripura covering 30 Forest Ranges under 7 Forest Divisions and 3 Wild life Sanctuaries.

Mode: Joint Forest Management (JFM) and cluster approach will be at the core of implementation. The project envisages the involvement of 400 JFMC (Joint Forest Management Committee), 1250 SHG (Self Help Group) and 49 clusters.

Components: The project consists of 12 components viz. preparatory works, strengthening of implementing organization, training and capacity building, special package for 16 regrouped villages of shifting cultivators, JFM community development, forest rehabilitation through JFM, farm forestry, NTFP Centre for Excellence, biodiversity conservation, monitoring and evaluation, Phase out/ in activity and consulting service.

Institutional framework: Registered Society mode. Governing Body under the Chairmanship of the Secretary will be the highest decision making body for project policies and co-ordination with other agencies.
